About MotorDeets
"Deets" = details. MotorDeets gives you the details on your car without the jargon.
Where the data comes from
- Recalls and owner complaints: the NHTSA public datasets (FLAT_RCL and FLAT_CMPL), refreshed 2026-10-13. Complaints are what owners report to the government. They're not verified, but patterns across hundreds of reports are telling.
- Engines and fuel economy: the EPA's fueleconomy.gov dataset.
- Photos: Wikimedia Commons, only free licenses (CC0, public domain, CC BY, CC BY-SA), credited under each photo. A photo shows the generation, so trim and color may differ from your car.
How we sum things up
For every model year we count complaints by component, look for recurring themes in the owner descriptions (stalling, leaks, warning lights and so on), compare the year with the model's other years, and rewrite the recall notices in plain English. We don't copy repair procedures or specs from copyrighted manuals.
How we make money
Some links to repair manuals are affiliate links. See our affiliate disclosure. This doesn't change the data we show.
Not safety advice
MotorDeets is for information only. For safety issues, check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls and talk to a qualified mechanic or dealer.
