What's wrong: The automatic transmission anti-shift lock electromagnet must engage into a hole in the balancer in order to prevent the gear lever from moving out of the park position unless the brake pedal is depressed. If the balancer and the electromagnet do not line up exactly, the engagement will not take place.

Why it matters: The gear lever could be moved from the park position with the driver depressing the brake pedal, resulting in possible unintended movement of the vehicle.

The fix: Dealers will install a new style anti-shift lock balancer.
